White Fillings
White Fillings in Bournemouth
Would you like more natural looking fillings?
White (composite) fillings are a natural-looking alternative to the more obvious amalgam fillings. If you need a filling then Sorinela, our dentist, would recommend a white filling as the best solution as they are both aesthetic and functional.
They bond to the tooth to support the structure of your damaged tooth which helps prevent breakage and are made from a hard-wearing substance so will withstand everything you bite and chew over a long period of time.
They can also used to improve the cosmetic look of your smile. This might include:
Giving you a confident, natural smile- not a metal shimmer in sight!
How is the white filling placed?
Step 1 – The area to be treated is numbed with a local anaesthetic and the decayed part of the tooth is removed.
Step 2 – An acidic gel is applied to the tooth, creating tiny holes to allow the composite material to bond effectively. The gel is washed away and the tooth is dried.
Step 3 – A priming agent is applied to the tooth to form a strong bond.
Step 4 – The colour matched the shade of composite is then applied in layers and moulded to match the shape of the tooth.
Step 5 – The resin is hardened with an ultraviolet light and then polished to look like a natural part of the tooth.
Aftercare
In order for your fillings to last and to prevent decay forming, it is important to maintain a good oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing your teeth twice daily, eating a good balanced diet and avoid sugary food and drinks. Remember to visit your dentist and hygienist every six months.
