What is a Porcelain Veneer?
A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain placed on the front of a tooth to improve the appearance of discoloured, irregularly shaped or damaged teeth.
Custom made for each patient, these cosmetic enhancements are made to resemble the appearance of natural dental enamel.
What are the advantages of having a veneer?
Veneers improve the appearance of teeth making them look natural and healthy. As they are thin less preparation of the tooth is required compared to a crown.
Treatment Steps
Step 1 – During your first visit, your dentist will prepare your tooth by removing any outer enamel necessary to accommodate for the veneer that will be placed on top.
Step 2 – Once the tooth has been prepared impressions are taken so a bespoke veneer can be made. The colour of your teeth is also noted so that the veneer will blend in perfectly.
Step 3 – Once your veneer has been made, Sorinela, our dentist will bond the veneer to your tooth with special adhesive which will firmly hold it in place.
Step 4 – In some cases, multiple visits may be required.
At Beechwood Dental we would recommend veneers when:
- Teeth have discoloured
- Teeth wear down
- Teeth are chipped or broken
- Teeth are misaligned, uneven or irregularly shaped
- Gaps between teeth
Aftercare
Veneers are durable restorations and with good home care veneers should last for many years. Your teeth are likely to look as good as new for 10 years or so, however, veneers can be damaged if not treated with care. Hard foods should be cut up before eating and avoid opening anything with your teeth! We recommend you brush and floss to maintain healthy teeth and gums and visit your dentist regularly.
