Caring about your smile
National Smile Month 19th May-19th June
A ‘smile’ it’s one of the most powerful and emotive gestures we can do. It’s SOOOOOOOO simple, yet so many people just don’t do it. Why? The reason is often caused by poor oral hygiene over many years.
The British Dental Foundation is promoting National Smile Month with a ‘Smiley’ and you will definitely find it impossible not to smile behind it. It’s fun, and it’s educational too. Last year 400,000 Smileys reached the public, carrying three key messages for good oral health.
- Brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste
- Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks
- Visit the dentist and hygienist regularly, as often as they recommend.
Poor oral health can be both physically painful and psychologically damaging. It can affect self-confidence, image and even how we are perceived by other people. From the many interesting studies into laughter millions of people may also be missing out on the ‘positive benefits of smiling’ and having fun. The Smiley is a great opportunity to take a moment to think about your oral health, and more importantly how you can improve it.
