Clear aligners V Traditional fixed braces

Do you have crooked teeth? Have you always imagined having the perfect straight teeth! Perhaps you are currently doing research into which type of braces you might choose- either fixed, more traditional braces v clear, aligners but don’t know which to choose? What fixed braces are there? There are a number of fixed braces you might consider for example Six Month Smile or Quick Straight Teeth just to name a couple. As they suggest they all use brackets and tooth coloured wires fixed to your teeth to gently guide your teeth into place. However, did you know there was is an alternative to having fixed braces? –  Clear aligners

What are Clear aligners?

Clear aligners– such as Invisalign or smilelign-are an effective alternative with several benefits compared to traditional braces, especially for adults.

1.Visibility

The main reason why our patients at Beechwood Dental in Bournemouth choose clear aligners is that they appear invisible. This helps conceal the fact that the patient is undergoing orthodontic treatment, which can be embarrassing for some adults. Clear aligners also help to hide existing gaps, another aesthetic benefit.

  1. Removability

Unlike traditional braces, our patients love having the ability to remove their clesr aligners when they eat and brush their teeth. This allows them to continue their usual hygiene routine of brushing and flossing.

Not only do clear aligners make cleaning easy, but they offer patients the freedom to eat what they want and brush their teeth normally. Patients no longer have to keep a list of restricted food items that may cause traditional brackets to come loose and require additional orthodontic visits.

3.Health benefits

Many patients who have traditional braces find it difficult to take care of their teeth as they do not adjust their oral health care whilst wearing them. This might result in some patients developing calcium deposits on the front teeth following treatment. These deposits are visible when the braces are removed and require the patient to either visit the hygienist, have cosmetic work done or live with white spots on their teeth.

Poor hygiene habits with traditional braces also may result in swollen gums that can be problematic if neglected. Swollen gums can then lead to gingivitis, which if left untreated can lead to lifelong health problems.

Clear aligners were initially used only on simple orthodontic cases, but are now used for slightly more advanced cases. However, they cannot be used for complex cases.

Beechwood Dental will be offering ‘Smilelign’ almost invisible aligners for February 2018. Prices start from an amazing £1300.
