Dental Bridges in Bournemouth
What is a Dental Bridge?
A bridge is a long-term replacement for a missing tooth or teeth. If nothing is done when one or more teeth are missing, the remaining teeth can drift out of position, which can lead to a change in bite, further decay, gum disease or the loss of additional teeth.
Dental bridges are usually made up of porcelain or ceramic material to resemble natural looking teeth, are therefore virtually unnoticeable and are a cost-effective solution to tooth loss when only a few teeth need replacing. The replaced teeth are anchored/’bridged’ into place by crowns on adjacent teeth.
What steps are involved in preparing a tooth for a bridge?
During your first visit
- Sorinela will prepare your surrounding teeth by removing any enamel necessary to allow room for the crown that will be placed on top.
- Impressions are then taken of the surrounding teeth; temporary crowns may be placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums while the bridge is being made.
During your second visit
- When your bridge has been made, Sorinela will cement your new porcelain or metal bridge into place and adjust it to achieve a proper fit.
- In some cases, you may require multiple visits to review the fit and bite.

Aftercare
Sorinela will then recommend that you have regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments, with our Dental Hygienists/Therapists to ensure any further problems are diagnosed early. Regularly brushing and flossing will maintain healthy teeth and gums, preventing tooth decay and gum disease that may lead to further tooth loss.
